With profound sadness we regret to announce the passing of our honorary member, Professor Takamitsu Muraoka (1938–2026). Together with his wife, Mrs. Keiko Muraoka (1939–2025), he laid the foundations for the Netherlands-Japan-Indonesia Working Group.
A gifted and erudite man, he devoted himself wholeheartedly to the mission of the working group. Through his dedication and work, the Japanese perspective on the events and wartime actions during World War II in the former Dutch East Indies and other parts of Asia was brought to light. He championed reconciliation between former enemies, however painful and difficult that process may have been.
His legacy continues through the Netherlands-Japan-Indonesia Dialogue Foundation, fostering a sense of reconciliation and healing amongst many victims. Throughout their efforts, the Muraoka’s were guided and inspired by their deep faith in the reconciling message of Christ. We are deeply grateful to him and we will strive to carry forward the mission of the Netherlands-Japan-Indonesia Dialogue Foundation in the spirit of Professor Muraoka.
